Curriculum: Year 12 entry

Work related learning through industry-led projects is at the heart of the curriculum. The delivery of core subjects will be approached from a problem solving perspective and will draw through the experiences of local manufacturing and engineering businesses.

Year 12 Curriculum

UTC Portsmouth will utilise technology-driven learning to provide a strong foundation on which to build students’ future career pathways. The focus on project based learning and education in different environments promotes creative thinking and an entrepreneurial mentality.
In Years 12–13 the focus remains on our core curriculum goals of delivering an exciting STEM provision through
working closely with leading local engineering employers on industry-led projects. The key feature is the range of
progression pathways available. This means we are able to offer varied options for students to study depending on their career aspirations.

There are three pathways options:

Vocational Pathway10_s7b2363

A vocational route is centred on the Level 3 OCR Cambridge Technical Diploma in Engineering, with a choice of 2 specialisms:

  • Mechanical, Electrical And Electronic Systems Design Engineering
  • Engineering Automation Control and Manufacturing Processes

 

Combined Pathway

Level 3 OCR Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate in Engineering with a choice of two A levels from:

  • Maths
  • Further maths
  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Biology
  • Geography
  • Computer science
  • English language and literature

Tailored academic route focused on delivering high quality A levels.

A choice of 3 from:

  • Maths
  • Further maths
  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Biology
  • Computer Science
  • Geography
  • English language and literature

 

In consultation with their mentors and teachers, students can choose the most appropriate route given their prior experience and achievements. The curriculum will still contain a wide range of enrichment for all routes, largely delivered through our partnerships with local industry and will have real employer projects embedded across it.
