UTC Portsmouth is a new type of college that provides a specialist STEM curriculum delivered by experts to meet the growing demands of employers across the region.
We are passionate and committed to science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects and offer an outstanding academic and technical learning environment for young people aged 14-19 years old. Alongside the national curriculum, UTC Portsmouth specialises in mechanical and electrical engineering and advanced manufacturing, offering engineering study programmes as well as A levels and GCSEs.

Our Year 13 Geography A Level students have enjoyed their final full day of activities in Iceland, visiting some of the country’s most impressive and unique locations.
The day included time at Hvammsvík Baths, Þingvellir National Park, and the Perlan Planetarium and Ice Cave - offering a mix of stunning natural landscapes, hands-on exploration and insight into Iceland’s incredible geology.
It’s been an unforgettable trip, witnessing some incredible geographical wonders - a fitting conclusion to a week of learning beyond the classroom.

This week our students visited Eaton Aerospace, one of our valued Employer Partners.
They enjoyed a careers stand tour, took part in a STEM activity, and attended an apprenticeship talk, gaining real insights into the working world. It was a fantastic opportunity to see behind the scenes at Eaton and learn more about the innovative engineering and technology that drives the aerospace industry.
Experiences like this help our students connect their classroom learning to real-world STEM careers.

Yesterday’s Iceland adventures for our Year 13 Geography A Level students included a wet and windy hike onto Sólheimajökull Glacier, where they explored the dramatic ice formations up close.
The group also visited the impressive Skógafoss Waterfall, before ending the day in Reykjavík with evening visits to Hallgrimskirkja Church and the Sun Voyager statue, both beautifully illuminated against the night sky.
Another brilliant chance to experience the variety of geography that Iceland has to offer.

We've had a record-breaking morning at UTC Portsmouth, with over 100 of our Year 12 and 13 students taking part in this year's UKMT Senior Maths Challenge.
It's fantastic to see so many of our students embracing the challenge and demonstrating their problem-solving skills, resilience, and passion for maths.

Yesterday was an unforgettable day of fieldwork for our Year 13 A Level Geography students. visiting some of Iceland’s most breathtaking geological and glacial sites.
From the dramatic Fjaðrárgljúfur Gorge and striking Dverghamrar Basalt Columns, to the serene Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and sparkling Diamond Beach, students saw geography come vividly to life.
The day also included a hike to Skaftafell Glacier, a visit to Foss a Sidu Waterfall, and ended with the spectacular sight of the Northern Lights - a truly memorable experience for everyone involved.

Our Year 13 Geography A Level students spent another fascinating day in Iceland exploring the country’s diverse landscapes and sustainable practices.
Highlights included the Geysir Geothermal Area, Friðheimar Tomato Farm, the Lava Centre, Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, and Dyrhólaey. These experiences gave students the opportunity to see geothermal activity, renewable energy use, and striking examples of Iceland’s volcanic and coastal landforms first-hand.
Another valuable day bringing classroom learning to life through real-world geography.

Chemistry of Food enrichment is in full swing!
This term, our students are exploring the science behind what we eat through hands-on investigations. Working in teams, they plan, carry out, and present their own experiments - building communication, creativity, problem-solving, and independence along the way.
So far, topics have included:
Protein coagulation • Natural pH indicators • Food preservation • Bread rising • Chocolate science
At UTC Portsmouth, enrichment is built into every student’s timetable. These sessions provide valuable experiences beyond the typical curriculum - helping students develop new skills, deepen their knowledge, and stand out when applying for future study or employment.

Yesterday, our Year 13 Geography A Level students began their field trip to Iceland with a day exploring some of the country’s most remarkable landscapes.
They visited the Grindavik lava fields to study the effects of volcanic activity, explored Reykjavik and the striking Hallgrímskirkja Cathedral, and undertook a guided tour through the Langihellir Lava Tunnel.
The trip provides students with a valuable opportunity to see geographical processes and landforms first-hand, deepening their understanding beyond the classroom.
