UTC Portsmouth is a new type of college that provides a specialist STEM curriculum delivered by experts to meet the growing demands of employers across the region.

We are passionate and committed to science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects and offer an outstanding academic and technical learning environment for young people aged 14-19 years old. Alongside the national curriculum, UTC Portsmouth specialises in mechanical and electrical engineering and advanced manufacturing, offering engineering study programmes as well as A levels and GCSEs.

And these pictures of the results speak for themselves! Students have worked together in different teams, collaborating, creating and innovating. For many, this has been the first time working together, and our students have embodied our STEM habits throughout. If this is the result after less than half a week, it’s clear our students have bright futures ahead of them. Last week, a group of our Year 10 and Year 12 students took part in a Women in STEM trip to @airbus, one of our Employer Partners. The visit gave students a valuable insight into career pathways within the aerospace sector, including Airbus’ Level 4 apprenticeships. They also had the opportunity to speak directly with women currently working in STEM roles – gaining perspective, advice, and inspiration. A highlight of the trip was exploring where Airbus antenna are assembled and tested, followed by a hands-on challenge in the training area, where students tried their hand at assembling components. This was a brilliant chance for our students to see their STEM learning in action, and to explore the exciting possibilities that exist in advanced engineering and technology careers. #STEM #Interactive #WomenInSTEM #Engineering #Careers

This week is our Summer Showcase! And we've got an incredible experience lined up for our Yr 10 and Yr 12 students. From tomorrow onwards, our students will be working on 3-day projects, with an exhibition showcase on the final day. There's a wide range of options for students to choose from - including building an F24 racing car, creating a real-life periodic table, joining the UTC Portsmouth band, or taking part in Project Runway. These opportunities not only focus on our STEM habits of mind but also give students the chance to explore areas beyond the traditional STEM curriculum, encouraging creativity, collaboration, and new ways of thinking.
