chromebooks at UTC Portsmouth

All our students use their own Chromebook device to support their learning in a fully cloud based environment. There is the option to bring your own device, which will be enrolled for use on our system, or to sign up to purchase a device through our subsidised Chromebook scheme.

Students wishing to bring their own device should consider the following:

  • Your device should ideally be a Chromebook with sufficient battery life to last a full college day

  • When your device is enrolled on our systems, apps such as Voice, Jamboard, Read Along and AppSheet will be disabled. A number of settings are also applied such as; custom college wallpaper applied, power wash disabled, password reset disabled, Chrome browser reporting enabled, guest mode disabled, Safe Search enforced

  • iPads are not suitable. UTC Portsmouth is almost exclusively a Google environment and even with Google apps in the Apple Store, the experience still won't be good enough and the device hardware just isn't up to task.
