We combine strong academic teaching with hands-on technical learning, supported by leading Employer Partners and the University of Portsmouth.

  • UTC Portsmouth offers a specialist STEM-focused education, combining academic qualifications with real-world experience.

Students gain practical skills through Employer Partner projects, training programmes, and enrichment activities.

Our professional learning environment, state-of-the-art facilities, and small class sizes help students excel and prepare for university, apprenticeships, and future STEM careers.

  • You can contact our Admissions Team at admissions@utcportsmouth.org for any questions about applications or entry requirements.

  • Our next Open Morning will take place on Saturday 8 November 2025, 10.30am – 12 noon.

Click here to book your place.

  • Applications to join UTC Portsmouth in Year 12 (Sixth Form) should be made directly to the college.

You can find the application form online via Applicaa.

Applications close on 12 January 2026.

  • Once we receive your application, you’ll be invited to attend a short virtual meeting (or face-to-face for current students) to discuss your interests and predicted GCSE results.

After your meeting, you’ll receive a conditional offer, which will be confirmed once applications close on 12 January 2026.

  • What subjects and pathways are available?

We offer three distinct pathways through Sixth Form:

    1. A Level Route – Choose from a wide range of STEM-focused subjects including Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, Psychology, Geography, English and Product Design.

    2. Combined Route – Study 2–3 A Levels alongside the Extended Certificate in Engineering (equivalent to one A Level).

    3. T Level Route – Choose between Engineering and Digital. Each is equivalent to 3 A Levels and includes a 45–50 day industry placement with an employer.

  • Students learn in modern, purpose-built spaces, including:

    • Engineering workshops, design labs, and CAD/CAM & 3D printing suites

    • Fully cloud-based systems (each student works from a Chromebook or laptop)

    • Dedicated Sixth Form study and social areas

    • Access to the University of Portsmouth’s library

  • The Sixth Form day runs from 8:30am – 4:40pm, reflecting professional working hours.

Students also have Independent Study periods to complete coursework during the college day, should they choose to, as well as timetabled Training and Enrichment sessions.

Depending on subject choices, some students may have slightly later starts or earlier finishes.

  • We are proud to work with a range of industry-leading Employer Partners, including the Royal Navy, BAE Systems, QinetiQ, Eaton, Lockheed Martin, and Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust.

These partnerships give students access to real-world projects, site visits, mentoring opportunities, and work experience that enhance employability and career readiness.

  • Our students progress to top universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, Bath, and Southampton, or secure higher and degree apprenticeships with major employers including Airbus, Rolls-Royce, Dyson, GSK, and the Royal Navy.

100% of our Sixth Form leavers move on to STEM-related degrees or apprenticeships.

  • We provide:

    • Small class sizes (around 15 students per subject)

    • Dedicated pastoral and progression support

    • Guidance for UCAS applications and apprenticeship preparation

    • A respectful, inclusive, and supportive community

  • UTC Portsmouth actively encourages women to pursue STEM pathways.

    We offer:

    • A dedicated mentoring programme with Employer Partners

    • Enrichment opportunities tailored to STEM interests

    • Access to female role models and professionals in engineering, science, and technology

We are proud to have a higher proportion of female students than similar STEM-focused institutions.
