Principal's Blog: October 2016

Applications are flying in and it has been great to meet future UTC Portsmouth students

October has been exciting so far. We have seen a huge increase in genuine interest which is also reflected in the large numbers of applications for both Year 10 and Year 12. Please be reminded the deadline for Year 10 applications is on the 31st October, whilst Year 12 applicants have until the 15th January to submit their forms.

It was superb to see so many of you at our Open Morning on Saturday 8th October.

Even though we (the project team, our employer partners and myself) were upstaged by the wonderfully entertaining Titan the Robot, prospective students and their parents left knowing a great deal more about our new school and college. Lots of you took the opportunity to look around the school construction site as well, which is still progressing ahead of schedule.

If the young, mature and enthusiastic people I have met so far is anything to go by, then UTC Portsmouth is going to be filled with students with the right attitude. At both the open events we have run during the past two months, there is very clearly a keen appetite amongst ambitious, local young people for a largely STEM-based education. I am really looking forward to meeting all of you in the spring who get places to find out more about you; especially your interests, your talents and your ambitions.

I would like to thank BAM Construction and all of our partners who came to support the events and made them so interesting and interactive.

We now have lots of ‘likes’ on our Facebook site and followers on Twitter.  Please do join us on these.

Only 11 months until UTC Portsmouth opens for learning!
